Tens of thousands of Haifa residents are evacuated due to the strongest fires that arose in different parts of the city. It is reported by Reuters.
According to The Times of Israel, we are talking about more than 75 thousand people, despite the fact that the entire Haifa population without suburbs is about 280 thousand. 136 people are hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning. There are no victims.
Forest fires in Israel continue since Tuesday. Forests burn around Haifa and west of Jerusalem, in the mountains in the north and in the center of the country, as well as in Judea and Samaria, which the international community does not recognize part of Israel. Hundreds of houses are damaged or destroyed. There are also no victims outside the borders. No one was seriously injured.
The cause of the distress was abnormally dry weather - there were no rains in these areas for several months - as well as strong eastern winds.
However, at least part of the fires covering Haifa on Thursday arose as a result of arson, on suspicion, several people have already been detained.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: "Each fire that arose as a result of arson or incitement to arson is a terrorist attack from all points of view, and we will consider it as such." He promised that those involved in the arson would be severely punished.
Meanwhile, part of the Arab population, in particular in the Palestinian autonomy, welcomes fires. Hashtag #israelisburning spread on Twitter (English is burning).
Israeli emergency services do not cope with the disaster. In this regard, the authorities turned to another state for help. Greece, Cyprus, Russia, Türkiye and Croatia proposed their aircraft for extinguishing fires. Palestinian autonomy expressed readiness to help. Netanyahu also said that he had asked the United States to send a powerful Super Tanker fire aircraft.
