In Havana, at the 91st year of his life, Kubinsky leader Fidel Castro died. It is reported by the BBC.
The death of Fidel on the air of state television was announced by his brother, chairman of the State Council of Cuba, Raul Castro. The Castro-Sr. died at 19:00 on Friday local time (at 3:00 Saturday in Moscow). The leader of the Cuban Revolution during his lifetime asked him to be cremated after his death. Raul Castro promised to fulfill this request.
A nine -day mourning has been announced in Cuba. For this period, "all public events and the show will stop, and the national flag on government and military buildings will be visible," the authorities said. In the coming hours, the body of Castro will be cremated. In early December, the urn with the ashes of the socialist leader will go on a farewell tour around the country. On December 4, the ashes of Castro will be buried in the city of Santiago de Cuba.
Fidel Castro was born in 1926. He received an education of a lawyer. In 1953, he headed an unsuccessful uprising against the dictator of Batista and was imprisoned. Two years later, he was released on an amnesty.
In 1956, Castro began the war against the government of Fulhensio Batista together in the Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara. Three years later, revolutionaries seized power in the country. Since then, Castro has been permanently ruled Cuba for almost 50 years.
Castro announced the socialist path of development of Cuba and went to rapprochement with the Soviet Union. In 1962, the USSR placed rockets with nuclear warheads directed against the United States on the island. This led to the Caribbean crisis, which, according to historians, could turn into a world war.
In the last years of life, Castro experienced health problems. In 2006, he practically retired, and in 2008 transferred power to his younger brother Raul. Subsequently, Castro said that he did this because of the deadly disease of the stomach.
In April, Castro made a speech on the last day of the Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba. “I will be 90 soon,” he said then. “I never thought that this would happen, it was not a fruit of labor, rather - a whim of fate. Soon I am following everyone, because each of us is once to leave. But the ideas of the Cuban Communists will live forever.”
The last time Fidel Castro appeared in public on August 13, on the day of his 90th anniversary.
