The Progress MS cargo spacecraft heading to the ISS crashed

According to the agency's interlocutor, information about the discovery of the Progress wreckage came from eyewitnesses, and is now being verified.

The Soyuz-U launch vehicle with the new Progress MS-04 series truck launched from Baikonur to the International Space Station at 17:52. The ship was supposed to deliver about 2.5 tons of cargo, including fuel, water supplies and food for the New Year's table for the expedition members.

According to an agency source in the industry, a similar accident with a launch vehicle, which led to the fall of the Progress M-12M truck, occurred on August 24, 2011. Then the reason for the emergency shutdown of the engine was a decrease in fuel consumption in the gas generator. The detected defect was considered accidental.
