The Crown Prince of Thailand ascended the throne

Crown Prince of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn ascended the throne. During the solemn ceremony, he officially agreed to the request of Parliament to become the next king, reports Associated Press.

The coronation of Vajiralongkorn, who will rule as Rama Tenth, will take place after the cremation of the body of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, which is expected to take place in the fall of 2017.

• King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama the 9th) of Thailand died on October 13, 2016. He has been on the throne for over 70 years. Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, 64, is his son.
