Repetition of moves

This is not to say that in recent years, Russian chess players have not achieved success. Vladimir Kramnik less than ten years ago was the absolute world chess champion, and in 2013 he shared the championship in the tournament of applicants with the Magnus Carlsen - that is, it happened just before the coronation of the new champion. However, Kramnik, with his defeats and victories, was of little interest to both Russian power and Russian society.

Another thing is Karjakin. The Russian officialdom monitored his match with Karlsen with a clear stinking, newspapers and online publications appeared on publications about an increased interest in chess all over the world, Karjakin was perceived as a new champion and were clearly annoyed by his defeat. And it’s clear why.

Kramnik, with all his talents - and despite the fact that, unlike Karjakin, this grandmaster was really the world champion, and not only fought for the crown - did not notice not only because during the heyday of his career, Russia did not yet live in a patriotic Ugar. And also because Kramnik does not fit into the myth of the "real" Russian winner. When Kramnik beat Kasparov in classical chess and became a new champion, this match was not seen at all besides the fans of the game. Kasparov’s defeats were only interested in Russia when he lost Karpov. But Karpov’s victories over Kasparov were perceived as the victories of Russia - or then the Soviet Union. And we also understand why.

And the point here is not only in nationality. Karpov brilliantly approached the role of the right winner. Handsome with Leonid Ilyich, written by curators of speech, Komsomol congresses, the position of president of the Soviet Foundation of the World - another cunning "roof" for the KGB. Loyalty is the main advantage of Karpov (unless, of course, it is considered a chess genius). And he retained his quality for the whole post -dumb life.

After the defeat of Karpov, chess ceased to interest Soviet propaganda. For three subsequent decades, chess recalled on the last pages of sports publications - and even the return of matches for the "real" championship crown did not change anything. The current interest is, of course, not an interest in chess. It was hope for New Karpov.

Karyakin is similar to the twelfth world champion with his demonstrative loyalty. He abandoned Ukrainian citizenship even when no one was thinking about the occupation of Crimea. He argued that he had never had anything to do with his former homeland (although he owed his first successes to the Kramatorsky club known among chess players), when no one had yet pulled him by the tongue. He, like Putin, is an initiative. And of course, he showed the initiative when he took a picture in a T -shirt with Putin in annexed Crimea.

It was clear that such a champion would not fail. That Karjakin will sign the right letters, read out by children of curators Karpov Speech, take pictures with Putin, Mutko and Dvorkovich - in a word, will turn into the same toy of power and propaganda as he was in the days of youth and the success of carps. To have at your disposal of the whole absolute world chess champion is the same as hanging the skin of a correctly killed predator in a prominent place. Those who are responsible for the national pride of the Great Russians have already froze in anticipation of the banquet.

But the banquet did not work. Karyakin is fully endowed with Karpov’s loyalty, but deprived of his talent.
