Sochi police detained the former head of the State Security Service of Abkhazia while crossing the border

In Sochi, police detained the leader of the Bloc of Opposition Forces and the former chairman of the State Security Service of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhania, Ekho Kavkaza reports , citing a statement by the Amtsakhara party.

The party statement said that Sochi police tried to detain Bzhania for two days. One of the “representatives of law enforcement agencies in civilian clothes” accused the politician of “hostile activities directed against Russia and Abkhazia.”

“Over the course of two days, Bzhania was repeatedly taken to the Sochi city police department, where he was interrogated. Today, when crossing the Russian-Abkhaz border at the time of passport control, Bzhaniya was taken to a separate room. Soon a car with representatives of law enforcement agencies arrived for him, in which he was again taken to the Sochi city police department, where Bzhania is still located,” Ekho Kavkaza quotes the party’s message.

Amtsakhara believes that the politician was detained “at the request of the authorities” of Abkhazia.

Bzhania headed the State Security Service of Abkhazia from 2010 to 2014. After that, he took part in the presidential elections, but lost to the current president of the republic, Raul Khajimba. Interfax clarifies that on November 30, at the Amtsakhara congress, Bzhania criticized Khadzhimba. The congress resolution spoke of the president's early resignation.
