Leonid Yuzefovich became the winner of the “Big Book”

Writer Leonid Yuzefovich took first place in the expert voting for the Big Book Award thanks to his novel Winter Road. The winner will receive three million rubles.

Second place and one and a half million rubles went to Evgeniy Vodolazkin with the book “Aviator”. Third place and a million rubles went to Lyudmila Ulitskaya Boris Akunin Recognized as a “foreign agent” for “Jacob’s Ladder.”

First place in the reader's vote was taken by Lyudmila Ulitskaya, second place by Maria Galina for the novel “Autochthons,” and third place by Evgeniy Vodolazkin.

The Non/fiction book fair was awarded a special prize for contributions to literature.

In an interview with Gorky, Yuzefovich said that he became interested in the Civil War, the events of which his novel describes, in the 1970s. “Oddly enough, then the Civil War was one of those periods of post-revolutionary history where censorship restrictions were not so strict. Books and films were published in which the Reds were still right in everything, but the Whites were no longer unambiguously bad. It was a kind of return to the tradition of Soviet literature of the 1920s,” the writer explained.
