According to ArtForum , Biennale participants will explore the concepts of home, neighborhood, and lifestyle - private and public, as well as the changes that our lifestyle has undergone over the past decades.
The press conference on the announcement of the topic of the 15th Istanbul Biennale began with a performance: forty people asked questions about what it means to be a good neighbor.
The curators Biennale Michael Elmgrin and Inga Dragneus discussed its format and presented a promotional project developed jointly with the artist Rupert Smith: Billboards with images and texts telling what it means to be a good neighbor will be installed since March 2017 in cooperation with cultural institutions around the world.
“In connection with the current geopolitical situation in which we see a new rise in nationalism, it will be important for us to oversee Biennale based on joint efforts and joint processes. - Commented Elmgrin and Dragset their appointment with curators of Istanbul Biennale in April 2016. - Cooperation is our native element, we work together as a creative duet for more than 20 years. Biennale can become a platform for dialogue, become a format in which different opinions, views and communities can coexist. ”
