Stanislav Kucher: "On the Internet, Putin and HRC"

“A rare case - I am pleased with the current meeting of human rights activists with Putin. In fact, no one expected anything new from him - but colleagues from the Specials voiced really serious problems - the consequences of the adoption of a“ patriotic ”law on foreign agents, lawlessness in the North Caucasus and unsolved murders of journalists, political repressions (including the fate of Ildar Dadin) and the prevention of human rights activists in the colony, State control over the media and the absence of an independent court, ”the journalist writes on his Facebook page.

“It is clear that neither the president’s promise to deal with specific stories, nor the scheduled proposals presented to him by solving problems will turn into sudden insight and will not change the system, the successful construction of which led to all these problems.

But the words are material, and I am glad that people pronounced these words publicly. Moreover, most of the speakers were not “beat the king”, but told Putin the often unpleasant truth and proposed specific solutions. Whatever the result is, it is definitely better than being silent.

As for me, after the approval of the new doctrine of information security, I am most interested in the fate of the Internet in Russia. Let me remind you that the first such doctrine turned into the establishment of complete control of the Kremlin over all federal media, television and radio in the first place.

That is why I considered it appropriate to tell Putin that I think about the prospects of the possible monopolization of the Internet pole and wider - about the need to develop media and Internet sites independent of the state, on which all the indifferent could discuss any issues from the picture of the future of the country to launching startups in the field of IT.

Let me remind you that it was precisely due to what happened under Putin with television, I left the "big screen", and therefore I do not feed any illusions regarding his promise to the state monopolization. There will be no monopolization, there will be control.

And yet I do not regret for a second that I did not sleep today and, having arrived from the NATO headquarters, went "to the light" to the Kremlin. Water is sharpening the stone - while the stoves are arguing, from which side it is better to approach the stone and is it not better to wait until it slides off the mountain.

PS A reason for cautious optimism is that if with the federal box the issue has long been resolved and "appeal" is subject only after the total change of landscape, then the question of the fate of the Internet is open. They do not want to kill him, as done in North Korea and several more charming corners of the earth. Leave completely free - they are afraid. The meaning from the point of view of the influence of future voters and builders (or destroyers?) Russia is understood. In short, they do not have a finished solution. "
