The UN General Assembly demanded an immediate end to hostilities in Syria

The United Nations General Assembly has called for an end to hostilities in Syria. The corresponding resolution was adopted at an extraordinary meeting by a majority of votes, reports . RIA Novosti

122 members of the General Assembly voted for the document, 13 voted against, including Russia, Belarus, Iran and Syria, and 36 abstained. Canada was the initiator of the meeting and the sponsor of the draft resolution.

The resolution "demands an immediate and complete cessation of all attacks on civilians and civilian objects" as well as "an immediate cessation of all sieges in Syria, including Aleppo."

Earlier on Friday , it became known that the Syrian army had liberated 93% of the territory of Aleppo.

Earlier on Friday, the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria reported that 8,500 civilians, including 2,934 children, left the militant-controlled neighborhoods of eastern Aleppo.

The day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced a temporary halt in hostilities in eastern Aleppo in order to withdraw the civilian population from the city. In addition, the minister noted that Moscow and Washington reached an agreement on a meeting of military experts and diplomats on December 10 in Geneva to complete work on a document on the withdrawal of militants from East Aleppo.
