Syrian troops took control of 93% of Aleppo

The Syrian army liberated 93% of the territory of Aleppo. This was reported by TASS with reference to the head of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of Russia, Sergei Rudsky.

“Government troops and people's militia continue to carry out an operation to liberate the eastern districts of the city of Aleppo from terrorists. As a result of successful offensive actions, 52 blocks of eastern Aleppo were liberated from militants. Over the past four days alone, the territory controlled by the militants has decreased by one third,” he said.

According to Rudsky, more than 1,000 militants voluntarily left Aleppo, "most of them were amnestied"

“In total, 1,096 militants left Aleppo voluntarily, 953 of them were amnestied, verification measures are being taken against the rest,” the representative of the General Staff added.

Earlier on Friday, the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria reported that 8,500 civilians, including 2,934 children, left the militant-controlled neighborhoods of eastern Aleppo.

The day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced a temporary halt in hostilities in eastern Aleppo in order to withdraw the civilian population from the city. In addition, the minister noted that Moscow and Washington reached an agreement on a meeting of military experts and diplomats on December 10 in Geneva to complete work on a document on the withdrawal of militants from East Aleppo.

Earlier this week, the Russian Defense Ministry said that more than 70% of the militant-controlled areas of Aleppo with civilians had already been liberated.
