The deputy head of the internal security department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs resigned after the detention of his subordinate

Anton Romeiko-Gurko, deputy head of the Main Directorate of the Security Service (GUSB) of the Russian Interior Ministry, and Vladimir Tsvetkov, head of the GUSB division, have resigned. This was announced by the official representative of the Ministry Irina Volk.

It is noted that the decision was made in connection with the detention of the head of the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the North-Western Federal District, Yury Timchenko.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it is also planned to make structural changes to the Main Directorate of Internal Security with the elimination of regional departments.

Earlier it became known that Colonel Yury Timchenko was detained on suspicion of taking a bribe. According to the Investigative Committee, Timchenko extorted a bribe to drop a criminal case on non-payment of taxes for a billion rubles by the Business Lines company and unblock its accounts.

“According to Timchenko’s requirements, part of the bribe in the amount of 50 million rubles was to be transferred no later than December 8, 2016, and the second 50 million rubles after the arrest was removed from the settlement accounts of Delovye Linii LLC,” the ministry said in a statement.

Timchenko has been in charge of the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the North-Western Federal District since 2014. Prior to that, he worked in the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the Central Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in Moscow. The unit headed by Timchenko was the only one that was retained when the district police departments were abolished in 2014.
