The Governor of the Syrian province of Homs Talal Barazi said that the ancient city of Palmir located in the region was indeed captured by the militants of the Islamic State terrorist group (prohibited in the Russian Federation). It is reported by Reuters with reference to the Syrian television channel Al ikhbariyah.
“The army is doing everything possible in order not to allow the terrorists to keep Palmyra,” the governor said. According to him, at present government troops are located at the outskirts of the city.
It should be noted that it became known earlier that the IS militants again took Palmyra after the air attack by government forces with the support of the Russian Air Force. Currently, Russian VKS do not strike at the peaceful quarters of the city.
