
The terrorists from the Islamic State captured Palmyra. This was reported by Reuters , the governor of the province of Homs stated on Syrian television.
“The army [President Bashar al -Assad] uses all funds so as not to allow terrorists to gain a foothold in Palmyra,” the governor said.
Earlier, ISIS itself announced its control over Palmyra. This information was confirmed by the Syrian Observator for Human Rights based in London.
Over the past day, ISIS has launched at least two attacks on Palmyra. At least four thousand militants took part in the second of it. The Russian Center for Reconciliation of the parties in Syria reported that the fighters were transferred to Palmyra from Rakka and Deir Ez-Zor.
ISIS controlled Palmyra for about 10 months since May 2015. The Government Army of Syria, with the support of the Russian Air Force, gained full control over the territory of the city in March 2016.
Palmyra is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. For 10 months, terrorists destroyed temples, arches and funeral towers, which were built about 2 thousand years ago.
