Director of the "Theater" Doc” Elena Gremina received a call from the local police officer and demanded that she urgently provide the statutory documents. Gremina wrote about this on Facebook. The district police officer found it difficult to explain why the head of the Basmanny police department urgently needed the statutory documents, but said that the theater was probably being “checked” because “anti-Russian performances are taking place there.”
According to Gremina, the district police officer demanded to provide the organization’s Charter, Taxpayer Identification Number, main state registration number, and lease agreement, adding that the theater is obliged to provide copies of all available documents. Gremina refused to urgently provide the documents, but promised to send copies of the charter documents by mail and advised to ask for a lease agreement from the HOA.
Gremina noted:
every time the cops started to become interested in our documents, it ended with the authorities attacking the theater
In December 2014, in the premises of the “Theater. Doc" conducted a search and detained three people. This happened on the day when the theater was showing a film about the events on the Maidan “Stronger than a weapon” in support of the arrested director Oleg Sentsov.
In May 2015, the day after the premiere of the play about the Bolotnaya Case, a prosecutor's inspection began at the theater, which was later explained by complaints from citizens.
