Activist Yevgeny Kurakin was detained in Reutov

In Reutov, on December 15, at about 10 am, Yevgeny Kurakin was detained in front of the entrance of the Reutov City Court, who came as a journalist to a meeting on the case of local businessman Ilya Derevsky, accused of fraud. The case against Derevsky was opened after he published a video message on the Internet, where he spoke out against the former mayor of Reutov, Alexander Khodyrev, and other representatives of the administration, accusing them of manipulating budget apartments.

The police took Kurakin to the Reutov police department, where he was given documents about the arrest and stated that he had been brought as a victim to give additional explanations in the case of his own beating. The police officers stated that they had operational information that Kurakin would come to the court session, where he was detained due to the fact that he did not appear for interrogations in the case of his own beating. After Kurakin managed to get out of the police department, he returned to the court, but the session had already begun, which is why they refused to let him in. Kurakin noted that they generally try to prevent journalists from attending this meeting, cameras are taken away at the entrance.

In August of this year, Kurakin was already detained , explaining this by interrogations in the case of his own beating, on the eve of the arrival in Reutov of the governor of the Moscow region Andrei Vorobyov.

In February 2016, unidentified persons armed with brass knuckles severely beat Yevgeny Kurakin, breaking his zygomatic bone and upper jaw.

Earlier, a criminal case was opened against the activist himself, accusing him of fraud: according to the investigation, he received profit from the agreement of the tenants of his HOA with a contractor company that did not provide them with services. Kurakin's defense believed that the reason for the persecution was his activities as an activist.
