74 journalists were killed in the world for a year

The international non -governmental organization “Reporters Sans Frontières” submitted a report according to the results of 2016, according to which 74 journalists were killed throughout the world for reasons related to their professional activities.

The report is published on the website "Reporters without borders." The most dangerous country in 2016 became Syria - 19 journalists were killed there, 10 in Afghanistan, in Mexico - 9, in Iraq - 7, in Yemen - 5.

The total number of those killed this year decreased compared to 2015, when 101 journalist became victims. The main reason for this decrease in the report is that many journalists were forced to flee from countries where their work became deadly - such as Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan and Burundi.

Also, a decrease in the number of killed journalists was the result of terror against freedom of the press - in countries such as Mexico, many journalists are forced to be silent to stay alive.

Since 2006, at least 780 journalists have been killed around the world in connection with its professional activities, the report of “reporters without borders” was noted.

“Violence against journalists becomes more and more intentional. - says the head of the organization Christoph Delor. - They become targets and die precisely because they are journalists. This alarming situation reflects the glaring failure of international initiatives aimed at protecting them. ”
