49 people died in Irkutsk from poisoning with an alcohol -containing concentrate "Hawthorn". This was reported by Interfax with reference to the senior assistant to the regional prosecutor Alexander Semenov. Eight more victims undergo treatment.

Earlier, the press secretary of the regional Ministry of Health Tatyana Lebedeva said that most of the poisoned are in serious condition.

TASS, referring to the head of the Interregional Directorate of the Rosalkogolregulovy in the Siberian Federal District of Alexei Krupin, reported that the concentrate contained methyl alcohol and antifreeze.

"Based on the results of operational-search measures, it was found that the poisoners used a concentrate for taking Bathroom Baths, containing, according to the label, 93 percent of ethyl alcohol, hawthorn extract, lemon oil, glycerin and dietylftalat. The investigating authorities opened a criminal case with Article 238 of the Criminal Code (sales of goods and products that do not meet security requirements that resulted in the death of two or more persons through negligence). Currently, investigators, together with police officers, are conducting searches in the markets where the "hawthorn" was sold. The Investigative Committee noted that more than 100 places of alcohol have already been established.

“More than 2 thousand liters of alcohol were seized from illegal turnover, as well as the implementation points of the Boyry cosmetic agent,” the TFR said, noting that more than 2 thousand capacities of this agent with a total of more than 500 liters were seized.

The mass poisoning of surrogate alcohol in the Novo-Lenino Irkutsk microdistrict became known on Saturday. According to preliminary data, all the victims used the perfume cosmetic product "Hawthorn".

To date, 42 people have entered city hospitals. The investigation interrogates the victims who have come into a stable state.

Later on Monday, it became known that Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev demanded to tighten control over the sale of "all kinds of alcohol-containing products" up to the seizure of trade. According to Interfax, the prime minister ordered the necessary consultations with State Duma deputies.

“It is impossible to put up with this. It is necessary to take all measures to either withdraw the appropriate drugs from retail trade or so that their turnover is put under full control, including the mentioned EGAIS system,” the head of government emphasized.

Separately, Medvedev asked to pay attention to the problem of the semi -legal turnover of the alcohol -containing liquids, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev.
