A woman in negligence

The court in Paris recognized the director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde guilty of negligence in the case of payment of compensation in the amount of 400 million euros to businessman Bernard Tapi. It is reported by Reuters.

At the same time, no punishment of the defendant was appointed. The Chairman of the Judicial College Martin Rant Madu explained such a decision by the fact that Lagarde acted in an atmosphere of the global financial crisis. He also referred to the reputation and international position of the defendant.

Lagarda on imputed prosecution threatened up to a year of prison.

The director of the IMF herself did not plead guilty. Her lawyer did not rule out that the decision would be appealed.

In 1993, Tapi sold a stake in Adidas to a consortium led by a partially owned by the state Crédit Lyonnais. In the future, however, the businessman said that his shares were purchased at a low price, and demanded compensation.

In 2008, Lagard, who then held the post of Minister of Finance of France, authorized the consideration of the complaint of Tapi and did not dispute the decision made in his favor. Meanwhile, in 2015, the court ordered the businessman to return this money. It is the refusal to appeal the decision to pay tap for compensation and the lagard was imputed for guilty.

As Reuters notes, a court decision can cause a new crisis in the leadership of the IMF. The previous one occurred in 2011, when the predecessor of Lagard, Dominic Stro-Kan, was accused of rape.
