In Ankara, Russian ambassador Andrei Karlov was killed. It is reported by Daily Sabah.

On the evening of Monday, the Turkish citizen Mert Altyntash shot Karlov at least eight times in the back when he performed at an art exhibition in a gallery of contemporary art. Having shot the ambassador, Altyntash began to shout something in Turkish. In the video of the attempt, you can hear the words "Allahu Akbar" and "Suriye" (tour. Syria). It was also reported that he mentioned Aleppo and revenge.

Altyntash in 2014 graduated from the police academy in Izmir. Meanwhile, journalist Onur Burchak Belly, citing a witness of an assassination attempt, wrote on his twitter that a policeman assigned to him was shooting at the ambassador.

Later, however, Reuters said with reference to a source in the Turkish special services that, although Altyntash really worked as a police officer, he was not in execution during the attempt.

According to Hürriyet Daily News, Karlov was taken to the Gyuven hospital in critical condition. About an hour after the attempt, at about 8 pm in Moscow, it became known about his death.

The head of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs arrived at the place, Suleiman Soil. The building cordoned off special forces; It was reported that shots were heard from the inside. Later it became known that Altyntash was killed.

Interfax later said that, on the fact of the murder of Karlov, the pen has opened a case under Article 360 ​​of the Criminal Code (an attack on a representative of a foreign state enjoying international protection), which provides for 2 to 6 years of the colony, and if there is a qualifying attribute "in order to provoke war or complicate international relations" - from 5 to 10 years. On what basis is the Russian Investigation Department engaged in a crime committed in another state, the agency did not explain.

As noted, the attempt occurred the day before the visit of the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Mevlut Chavushoglu in Moscow. There he should discuss the situation in Syria with his Russian and Iranian colleagues - Sergey Lavrov and Mohammad Javad Zarif.
