
The UN General Assembly adopted the resolution "Regulations with human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol (Ukraine)." In the document published on the site, he is condemned by the "infringement of human rights and discriminatory measures" from the "Russian occupation authorities" on the annexed peninsula.
The resolution proposed by Ukraine was supported by 70 states. Representatives of 26 countries, including Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Venezuela, Iran, China, DPRK, Cuba, Serbia, Syria, voted against. 77 states under the vote abstained.
Russia is designated in the text of the document as a "occupying power", and Crimea - as a "temporarily occupied" territory. The resolution condemns violations of the rights of "Crimean Tatars, as well as Ukrainians and persons belonging to other ethnic and religious groups."
The UN General Assembly urges the Russian authorities to cancel the decision to recognize the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people with an extremist organization. From Moscow they demand the release of Ukrainian citizens "who were illegally detained and convicted without taking into account the elementary norms of administration of justice." In addition, it is required to "provide proper and unhindered access to international missions to observe the regulations in the field of human rights" on the peninsula.
On November 9, Ukraine introduced a draft of this resolution at the UN. On November 16, the documentapproved the Committee of the UN General Assembly on Social and Humanitarian issues (Third Committee).
In March 2014, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution confirming the territorial integrity of Ukraine . 100 countries voted for the adoption of the document. In addition to Russia, 10 countries opposed: Armenia, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, DPRK, Nicaragua, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela and Zimbabwe. Another 58 delegations, including China, abstained.
"A referendum held in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol on March 16, 2014, without legal force, cannot be the basis for any change in the status of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea or the city of Sevastopol," the document said. The resolution calls for countries not to recognize any change in the status of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol and refrain from any actions that could be interpreted as a recognition of a change in status.
