In a telephone conversation of Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the presidents agreed on the joint work of Russian and Turkish investigators in the case of the murder of Andrei Karlov’s ambassador in Ankara. This was stated by the press secretary of the head of the Russian state Dmitry Peskov, Interfax reports .

The operational-investigation group of representatives of the special services, the Investigative Committee and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already flew to Turkey, said Peskov. “In total, 18 people will work as part of the group,” the press secretary said.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, said that the purpose of the murder of the ambassador is to undermine the normalization of relations between Moscow and Ankara. "As Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a conversation with Turkey President Tayyip Erdogan and in his television circulation, we are convinced that the main goal of those who conceived this barbaric act is to undermine the process of normalizing relations between Russia and Turkey," the minister said. According to Lavrov, another goal was to prevent the fight against terrorism in Syria. “This goal is with unusual means. It will not pass,” the head of the Foreign Ministry added.

The Foreign Ministry called on the Russians going to Turkey to weigh all the possible risks that they may encounter in this country. “I think that every person who goes to Turkey must seriously think before doing this, because there are terrorist attacks almost daily,” said the deputy head of the department Oleg Syromolotov. “The world begins to change. If earlier some kind of terrorist attack was a tragedy that has been in the months of discussion, now several terrorist attacks can happen, and this becomes commonplace. That's the worst thing.”

The UN Security Council recognized the murder of Carlov’s terrorist attack. "The members of the Security Council in the most serious way condemned the terrorist attack on December 19 in Ankara, Turkey, as a result of which the Ambassador of the Russian Federation was killed," the statement said. UN Secretary General Pan Hi Moon also stated that he was shocked by this meaningless act of terrorism.

Meanwhile, the Ankara police detained a man who shot several times into the air from a rifle into the air next to the territory of the US Embassy. On the night of Tuesday, a man called "Sakhin S." went to the diplomatic mission, took out a rifle from under the coat and made eight or nine shots into the air.

In the area of ​​the embassy, ​​increased security measures have been introduced, an investigation is underway. On Tuesday, all US diplomatic missions in Turkey, the embassy in Ankara and consulate in Istanbul and Adan, will be closed for security reasons.

On Monday evening, Karpov was mortally wounded at the opening of the photo exhibition "Russia through the eyes of a traveler: from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka" in the center of contemporary art in Ankara. The ambassador was delivered to the hospital, where he died of wounds. Two more people were injured.

The 22-year-old Mevlut Mert Altyntash, a former Turkish police officer, who was fired after trying to the coup in July 2016, shot a diplomat. After the murder of Altyntash, on a mixture of Arabic and Turkish languages, shouted: "Allah Akbar! Do not forget about Aleppo! Do not forget about Syria! Only death will stop me. Everyone who participated in the oppression will be paid for this - one after another." The attacker was killed by employees of Turkish special forces.

The Turkish authorities consider the involvement of Altyntash as the main version in the movement of supporters of the preacher Fethullah Gulen, who is accused of attempt by the coup. It is noted that Altyntash has never been in Syria and has not been seen in relations with Syrian groups. At the same time, he studied in one of the schools created by the Gulen movement, and during the coup attempt to go on vacation for two days in Turkey. Gulen himself, living in the United States, rejected involvement in the murder of the Russian ambassador, calling such statements "ridiculous."

Turkish police detained father, mother and sister of Altyntash. His neighbor, who also serves in the special forces of Ankara, is also taken into custody.

On the fact of the murder of Karlov, the Skr opened a case under Article 360 ​​of the Criminal Code (attack on a representative of a foreign state enjoying international protection), which provides for 2 to 6 years of the colony, and if there is a qualifying attribute "in order to provoke war or complicate international relations" - from 5 to 10 years.

As noted, the attempt occurred the day before the visit of the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Mevlut Chavushoglu in Moscow. There he should discuss the situation in Syria with his Russian and Iranian colleagues - Sergey Lavrov and Mohammad Javad Zarif. In Moscow and Ankara they said that the visit would not be canceled.
