Almost 700 signatures collected a letter from students, graduates and teachers of the Russian Institute of Theater Arts (GITIS) on the Internet with a request to revise the decision to merge the theater and production faculties of the university.
The letter is addressed to the Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky, the chairman of the Union of Theater Workers of Russia Alexander Kalyagin and rector Gitis Grigory Zaslavsky.
Students of both faculties learned about the decision of the Academic Council of GITIS to unite the theater and production faculties from the news, although under the charter of the university they had the right to participate in the discussion. In addition, the authors of the letter are reminiscent, at a meeting of the Academic Council there were no managers, heads of departments and the most important teachers of two faculties at whom the decision was made, and the dean of the Theater Faculty Natalya Pivovarova is now on the sick leave.
“All this speaks of the haste and shortsightedness of such a decision. - The letter says. - You cannot defend the interests of science and education behind professors, teachers and students. This form of decision -making is seen by us incorrect. ”
“The merger of two multidirectional faculties is a categorically unreasonable solution. The production faculty is preparing organizers and managers, theater - scientists. Recall that once the production faculty grew out of the theater. A special theater education is a unique phenomenon of Russian culture, ”the authors of the letter noted.
They require public explanations from the rector of Zaslavsky, a repeated convocation of the Academic Council in full force and open discussion "with the participation of teachers and students interested in the fate of their faculties."
His rector announced the merger of the producer and theater faculties of GITIS at a meeting of the Scientific Council on December 21, explaining this decision by the fact that “almost all Russian festivals are supervised by theatrical critics,” so people of this profession need knowledge and production.
