Goethe Institute in Moscow will present the exhibition "Border"

Artists from Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Russia and Germany will take part in the international exhibition project of the Goethe-Institute "Border", which will be held from January 31 to February 26, 2017 in the art gallery Zurab Tsereteli in Moscow.

The “border” explores and analyzes the boundaries and their occurrence in various forms: as territorial isolations or, conversely, joining, as cultural or social barriers, as a tool separating “us” from “others”.

The word “border”, the organizers note, should be understood as a metaphor as a conditional image, which is the subject of agreement and subject to changes - an acutely uniform topic for Russia and former Soviet republics, as well as for Germany and Europe. The “red line” is the geographical and cultural border between Europe and Asia. The project considers these topics from the standpoint of artistic creation, from a cultural dimension.

“Our goal is to contribute to the most versatile study of processes, motives and the causes of borders,” says Astrid Vega, head of the Gyete-In-Institute of Cultural Programs in Moscow.

In the focus of the project, the young generation of artists, who since 2017 will represent their understanding of the topic, their thoughts on it at a mobile exhibition in Eastern Europe, Russia, Central Asia and Germany.

The exhibition will be presented in a specially designed mobile exposition space. Symposiums complementing it will be held along the entire route of the exhibition, which will perform local specialists and experts from Germany.

The curators of the exhibition are the director of the public organization for the promotion and support of the HMKV media art in Dortmund Inca Arns and the curator and art critic from Berlin Tibo de Roiter.
