A Tunisian man was detained in Berlin in connection with a terrorist attack at a Christmas market.

In Berlin, police detained a 40-year-old native of Tunisia on suspicion of involvement in the December 19 Christmas market attack.

According to Deutsche Welle, the man was detained on the morning of December 28 after searches were made at his home in the Tempelhof district. His name is not reported.

The prosecutor's office said that the detainee's phone number was stored in the phone of the terrorist Anis Amri. The investigation suggests that the man may be involved in the crime.

The issue of the arrest of the suspect will be resolved within a day.

Update. On December 29, the prosecutor's office announced that the detainee had been released.

• On the evening of December 19, a truck with Polish license plates drove into a Christmas market in Berlin. As a result, 12 people died and 49 were injured.
• The perpetrator of the attack is considered to be 24-year-old native of Tunisia, Anis Amri. A few hours before the attack, he shot dead a truck driver, Polish citizen Lukasz Urban. After the incident, he managed to escape. On the morning of December 23, he was shot dead by police in Milan.
• Islamic State terrorists claimed responsibility for the attack. On suspicion of involvement in the attack, three people were detained in Tunisia, including the nephew of Anis Amri.
