The creator of Kinder Surprise has died

In Italy, at the age of 83, William Salis, one of the leaders of the Ferrero company, died. Among other things, Salis came up with a "kinder surprise" - a chocolate egg with a toy inside.

Salis came up with the Kinder Surprise in the early 1970s, selling the chocolate egg in 1974. In addition to creating the Kinder Surprise, Salis is also known for inventing the Ferrero Rocher candy. "Kinder surprises" have become a variation on the theme of traditional Easter chocolate eggs, extremely popular in Italy.

Salis retired in 2007. He died after a heart attack in the Italian city of Pavia.

• "Kinder Surprise" is a chocolate egg, inside of which there is a container with a toy. Inside the container there can be both a prefabricated toy and a painted collectible figurine from one or another thematic series.
• Kinder Surprise figurines are popular among collectors.
• In the United States, the sale of Kinder Surprises is prohibited: American laws prohibit placing inedible parts inside edible products.
