Part I. Stalin's funeral

On March 5, 1953, a message about the death of Stalin appeared in Pravda - rumors about this went through Moscow for several days. By that time, the major of the American army, Martin Manhof, worked in the capital of the USSR for more than a year.

Mankhof did not record his reaction to the death of the Soviet dictator. But the assistant to the military attache made much more for the story: he shot Stalin's funeral. This is the only well-known independent photo and filming of the event today.

On the chronicle of the manhof, shot on a color film, it is clear how hundreds of soldiers in overcoats form a long corridor, along which a coffin with the body of Stalin is carried out on Red Square. The following is a procession of dozens of high -ranking persons - members of the Politburo and other senior officials. They hold massive funeral wreaths in front of them.
