1977 Series of terrorist attacks in Moscow

Forty years ago, on January 8, 1977, at 5:33 pm, a bomb exploded in a Moscow subway car between Izmailovskaya and Pervomaiskaya stations. At 18:05, an explosion occurred in the trading floor of grocery store No. 15 on Dzerzhinsky Street (now Bolshaya Lubyanka), at 18:10 - near grocery store No. 5 on October 25 Street (now Nikolskaya). In total, 7 people were killed (all in an explosion in the subway) and 37 people were injured.

The investigation came to the worker Hakob Stepanyan and the artist Zaven Baghdasaryan from Yerevan, who were detained in October of the same year after an unsuccessful attempt to arrange an explosion at the Kursk railway station in Moscow. Yerevan dissident Stepan Zatikyan was declared the head of the group. All three were shot after a closed trial. Some human rights activists, including Academician Sakharov, believed that in fact Zatikyan was not involved in the crime. They also doubted the guilt of the other two convicts.
