Aleksey Yablokov died

In Moscow, at the age of 84, a member of the Federal Political Committee of the Yabloko party, ecologist Alexei Yablokov died. This was reported by the head of the party’s press service Igor Yakovlev.

In 1956, Yablokov graduated from the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University. In 1959 he defended his candidate, in 1965 - a doctoral dissertation. In 1984, Yablokov was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Yablokov conducted research in the field of biology of marine mammals, population and evolutionary biology, ecology.

In 1988, Yablokov founded and headed the Greenpeace branch in the USSR, as well as the Moscow Society for the Protection of Animals.

In 1989, Yablokov was elected People's Deputy of the USSR from scientific societies and associations under the USSR Academy of Sciences. The Supreme Council was the deputy chairman of the Ecology Committee, a member of the Coordinating Council of the Interregional Deputy Group.

In 1991-1993, Yablokov was an adviser to the President of Russia on Ecology and Health Protection. In 1993-1997, Yablokov headed the Interdepartmental Commission of the Russian Security Council on environmental safety.

In 2005, Yablokov created and headed the party "The Union of Green Russia" ("Green Russia"). In 2006, the "Union of Green" entered the Yabloko party as a faction. Yablokov became the deputy chairman of the party, and since 2008 he became part of the Politic Committee of Yabloko.

In 2007 and 2011, Yablokov ran for the State Duma on the lists of the Yabloko party.
