Environmental police created in Beijing

Beijing authorities have created an environmental police to combat smog. This was reported by Kommersant with reference to the BBC television channel.

The responsibilities of the new structure will include monitoring cases of unauthorized arson of garbage, wood, and other biomaterials.

Environmental police will also stop attempts to cook barbecues in the open air.

In addition, the city mayor promised to reduce the use of stove heating by 30%.

In early January, Beijing declared an “orange” level of air pollution, the second most dangerous.

Currently, high levels of air pollution remain in northern China. According to officials, existing weather conditions did not allow normal clearing of the atmosphere.
