The Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation: Baikal's level will be restored in 2017

The level of Baikal in 2017 should be restored to the necessary, the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia Sergey Donskoy told reporters.

“We go better than the 2015 and 2016 level in the dynamics of the level of the 2015th and 2016, in February there will be a decrease below the minimum mark of 456 m. But from the point of view of dynamics, we see a way out of a negative trend,” Donskoy said, noting that the minimum level will not fall below the next year ( quote for TASS).

According to the Minister that the process of filling the lake level has already begun. “We believe that we will move away from negative factors, and Baikal will develop steadily further,” the minister said.

A complex hydrological situation is observed in Baikal in recent years. The decrease in water began against the background of a deficiency of precipitation and high temperatures in 2014. In the spring of 2015, the water left 14 cm below 456 m. In the fall, the water rose, and by the New Year 2016 it fell again. Water began to arrive only in the summer of 2016, when serious precipitation came in the Baikal region. The water level in the lake normalized in June.
