According to Interfax, citing a statement by a member of the National Council on Television on Television and Radio Broadcasting Sergei Kostinsky, in 2016 the regulator repeatedly recorded violations of Ukrainian legislation by the Rain channel.
Kostinsky, in particular, mentioned the show on his air of Russian advertising, as well as the fact that the journalists of the rain traveled to Crimea from the territory of the Russian Federation.
The representative of the Volya Partner Provider told Rain that the decision was made on January 12 at a meeting of the National Council. From January 16, when an official document will be published, the operators will have to exclude the channel from the networks within a month.
“I am very sorry that the National Council of Ukraine made such a decision,” commented on the Director General of Rain Natalya Sindeeva. According to her, last summer the rain notified the National Council on the television and radio broadcasting of Ukraine that, under the terms of contracts with providers, broadcasting of the channel in the country is carried out through an IP connection without direct commercial advertising, and no complaints from the national council have been received since then.
The Director General of Rain also noted that when showing a map of Russia, the channel is guided by the Russian law, according to which Crimea is the subject of the Russian Federation.
“I hope that our Ukrainian viewer will find the opportunity to watch“ rain ”through our site, our applications in Smart TV and other distribution channels,” Sindeeva added.
To date, the Ukrainian authorities have banned the broadcast of about 35 Russian television channels due to violation of the legislation of Ukraine in the fields of national security and advertising.
