The Chief Inspector of the US Department of Justice announced the start of an audit of some decisions taken by the leadership of the FBI and the ministry itself on the eve of the 2016 presidential election.
The audit will cover public statements by FBI Director James Comey about Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's emails made in July, October and November 2016. In particular, the inspector will check the allegations that they were based on decisions made for "inappropriate motives."
In addition, the inspector will check the circumstances of the publication a few days before the election of the materials of the investigation against former US President Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton's husband.
It was decided to conduct the audit after appeals from US congressmen, a number of organizations and members of the public, the statement said.
