St. Petersburg will transfer another cathedral to the Russian Orthodox Church

The authorities of St. Petersburg are transferring the Church of St. Catherine in Pushkin for free use by the Russian Orthodox Church, TASS reports with reference to the city's property relations committee.

According to the agency, the temple will be handed over for a period of 49 years.

On Tuesday, January 10, the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko announced the transfer of St. Isaac's Cathedral to the Russian Orthodox Church has been resolved. According to him, the cathedral will retain its museum function and will be supported by the church.

Earlier, Fontanka announced this decision of the city authorities. According to the publication, Georgy Poltavchenko decided to transfer St. Isaac's Cathedral to the Russian Orthodox Church after a meeting with Patriarch Kirill in December 2016.

The Tsarskoye Selo Cathedral was destroyed in 1939. The construction of the new temple began in 2006, it was completely restored by 2010.
