The candidate for the US Minister of Defense, General James Mattis, called Russia one of the “fundamental” threats to the world order since the Second World War. It is reported by Reuters .

According to Mattis, Russia violates the world order by participating in cyber attacks and information warfare, does not comply with international agreements, applies tactics “close to the open war” and destabilizes the situation in other countries.

“I would like to know closer to my security team, to develop a draft strategy to counteract Russia due to what it has already done,” he said.

At the same time, Mattis supported the desire of the chosen President of the United States Donald Trump to develop cooperation between Washington and Moscow, but noted that he has “very modest expectations” about this.

The applicant for the post of head of the CIA Mike Pompeo also called the behavior of Russia "aggressive." He noted that the reconnaissance report, published on January 7, proves the Kremlin’s intervention in the election of the US president and his attempt to “influence American democracy”.

“It was an act of aggression under the leadership of the Russian authorities,” said Pompeo.

Earlier, the future US Secretary of State Rax Tillerson also said that Russia should be responsible for its actions, including the situation with the Crimea.
