Journalist and publisher Sergey Parkhomenko from January 10 was expelled from the Russian Pen-Center. This follows from the minutes of the meeting of the executive committee of the organization dated December 28, 2016, in which nine people participated in full and in absentia - seven. With the exception of Parkhomenko, they voted unanimously.

“It seems that the blogger Sergei Parkhomenko, brought up by the Komsomol and in human rights circles, the reputation of the“ provocateur from Bolotnaya Square ”entered into our writer's organization only to destroy it from the inside, turning it, contrary to the charter and the charter, into an opposition political party. During the two years of his stay in the Russian Pen-Center, he, despite repeated warnings, constantly violated and violates clause 4.12 of the Charter of the Russian Pen-Center, supplying the media for false, tendentious information that defeated our organization, using its brand for personal purposes. Now he lives in America, but from there he continues to lie on the radio, relying on the assigned "documents". It distributes slanderous information on the Internet about our honorary president, the world famous Andrei Bitov, using the Hamian vocabulary of the Soviet Barin, gives instructions to the Directorate of the Russian Pen-Center. ”

Another member of the Pen-Center-Marina Vishnevetskaya-received a strict warning “for distribution in the media of the tendentially mounted texts and video shooting of the assembly on 12/15/2016, which led to falsification of the essence of the event and subsequently used by unscrupulous users of the Internet and the media.”

This decision is shameful. Excluding S. Parkhomenko “for retreating from the immutable principles concluded in the Charter of the International Pen club and“ punishing ”his colleagues, the leadership of the Russian Pen-Center itself retreats from the principles set forth in the Charter. It was Sergey Parkhomenko and his colleagues, acting as the initiators of human rights letters, who honestly performed the norms and ideals prescribed in the charter. We demand to immediately cancel this decision. We repeat (and join it) the requirement of the executive committee of the St. Petersburg Pen-Center dated 12/21/2016: Immediately hold an extraordinary meeting of the Russian Pen-Center in Moscow in accordance with its officially registered charter. Before the general meeting, we terminate all kinds of relations with the current executive committee of the Russian Pen-center as an unauthorized (illegitimate) body.

As the first secretary of the Moscow Writers Union, I was ready to work in the executive committee of the Russian Pen-Center, hoping for the close and fruitful cooperation of our union with a well-known human rights organization. Unfortunately, the latest decisions of the executive committee, adopted without my participation, force me to leave this governing body of the PEN Center.

All the years in Pena, I have seen the meaning of my activity in the unification of writers, who, despite the difference in opinions, representations and addictions, are ready to protect the principles of freedom of speech together, protect writers and poets, journalists and publishers who are persecuted for their texts, words, thoughts. For some time it seemed to me that it was possible and achievable, but recent events testify to the opposite.

Of course, the boundaries between human rights activities and the activity of the political is not obvious, there are many other difficult problems. This can and should be argued, negotiate, find a common language, look for a compromise, while the path of public mutual insults, exceptions from the organization and other “simple decisions” leads only to crisis and split.

Alas, today on both sides of the Penovsky barricades were writers and poets who I respect and love, with whom I am associated with old friendly relations, and I do not want to make an unnecessary, imposed choice between Zhenya, left, Igor, Lucy, Andrei, Grisha, Marina, Varya, Sasha, Valera, Bones, Others, Seryozha, Volodya, Maxim, Yulik, Yulik, Yulik. Until recently (“not hesitating, villains shoot”) many members of the executive committee of the Russian Pen Center, my respected ones! I still expected some enlightenment from you, or something. Well, you can’t act like that in a Soviet way. Subject public condemnation, condemn and not let go. It is generally to elect the bodies of their “power”. Replace high proclaimed goals with completely different - elementary: among which the preservation of this “power” is the main one. Well, what are you, except for free foreign trips, will you get now? However, I may not know something? Parkhomenko is not a matchmaker and not a brother, as well as roosters, excluded for the company with him, are not even friends. But ... for life to exclude from a human rights organization only for words that they did not like, this is something with something. You are an organization that is obliged to defend freedom of speech by its very essence! And how is Russian foam with human rights functions? Something is not heard and not visible, unlike the period when the director of the Russian foam was the late Sasha Tkachenko. But the full loyalty of the existing regime is clearly visible, hardly the most soft, fluffy and democratic. In addition, reading your petitions, I catch myself on the fact that I had enough this wretched style and rhetoric in the Soviet years. Tired!

In my opinion, for a human rights trade union-but there is no other Pen-this is the central question, and I was crushed by how it was put under cloth.
