Activists "presented" the Russian Orthodox Church of St. Petersburg

In St. Petersburg, activists of the Rodina art group held a rally “Transfer” against the transition of the Isaac's Cathedral under the control of the Russian Orthodox Church (Russian Orthodox Church). This was reported by the Open Russia organization.

Activists were photographed against the backdrop of various city objects of St. Petersburg with a banner with the inscription "in the gift of the Russian Orthodox Church" and the symbol of the cross. The attractions that fell into the frame included a guest courtyard, Circus Chiniselli and the Fontanka River. Activists did not take pictures against the backdrop of the Isaac's Cathedral, saying that the city authorities had already "presented" a monument of architecture of the church without the help of Petersburgers.

On January 10, the governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko announced the transition of the St. Isaac's Cathedral to the Church. The decision of the authorities was criticized by politics, artists and ordinary residents of the city. Hundreds of people came to the protest in front of the cathedral. More than three million tourists visit the Isaacievsky Cathedral annually. At the same time, services are held there.
