At the disposal of the Main Military Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine was the appeal of the fugitive ex-president Viktor Yanukovych dated March 1, 2014 with a request to Vladimir Putin to introduce Russian troops into the country. This was announced at his FB page by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuri Lutsenko.
The supervisory authority received the Facsimile of the document from the UN Secretariat through the constant representative office of Ukraine in an international organization. On January 4, the representative office requested a letter from the Permanent Representative of Russia Vitaly Churkin in the UN Secretariat of March 3, 2014, addressed to the then Secretary General of the organization of Pan Hi Munu, and all the documents attached to this letter, including Yanukovych's appeal. On the 6th, the secretariat sent a copy of the requested papers to the Ukrainian Permanent.
“The UN materials received by the Ukrainian investigation recognized the official documents provided by Russia,” Lutsenko emphasized. “Upon documentary evidence of Yanukovych’s treason was received.”
However, he did not publish a copy of the appeal of a fugitive ex-president in his post.
On the night of March 4, 2014, Churkin, speaking at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, demonstrated to the diplomats a copy of the letter of Yanukovych . The document, among other things, said: "I am addressing Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin with a request to use the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to restore the rule of law, peace, law and order, stability, and protect the population of Ukraine."
At the same time, Yanukovych was removed by the Verkhovna Rada from the post of president on February 22, 2014 and fled to Russia around the 23rd.
The special forces of the Russian GRU, dressed in camouflage without identification marks, captured a number of objects in Crimea on the night of February 27, 2014. However, Putin then refused to admit that Russian troops were operating on the peninsula. Only March 1 - as you can assume, after receiving a letter from Yanukovych - he turned to the Council for permission to introduce troops into Ukraine. On the same day, the decision was made unanimously .
Meanwhile, judging by the commemorative medal released after the annexation of Crimea, Russia began the capture of the peninsula on February 20, 2014, that is, before the overthrow of Yanukovych.
