In Transbaikalia, a patient who lost her uterus after an unsuccessful abortion demanded 5 million rubles

In the Trans-Baikal Territory, a 28-year-old patient of the Mogoituy Central Hospital demanded five million rubles in compensation from the medical institution for losing her reproductive function after an unsuccessful operation, Zona Prava reports , citing the plaintiff’s representative Anastasia Kopteva.

In March 2016, a resident of Transbaikalia was prescribed an abortion due to a missed abortion. As the patient said, obstetrician-gynecologist Lidiya Dashieva during the operation pierced the wall of the uterus and damaged the ileum, which led to purulent peritonitis.

The patient complained that the doctor hid from her and from management that the uterine wall was damaged. The girl was sent for a second operation to stitch up the damaged organs, after which her condition worsened. Only then was she told that the first operation was unsuccessful.

She had to be urgently hospitalized in Chita with serous-fibrinous peritonitis, where she underwent a third operation at the regional clinical hospital. To save the patient's life, doctors had to remove her uterus and tubes.

The Novosibirsk Center for Independent Medical and Social Expertise concluded that the doctor was obliged to immediately evacuate the patient to the Chita hospital after being injured. The actions of the obstetrician, who independently sutured, sanitized and drained the damaged area of ​​the ileum, according to the specialist, went beyond the special knowledge of the obstetrician-gynecologist and led to postoperative consequences, which ultimately caused serious harm to the patient’s health.

The commission of the regional Ministry of Health conducted an inspection of the Mogoituy Central District Hospital and demanded to monitor the implementation of the protocol for organizing the evacuation of pregnant women in emergency conditions. The hospital's internal investigation concluded that the doctor chose the wrong tactics to terminate the pregnancy. The obstetrician who performed the operation was disciplined. Shortly after the incident, she resigned voluntarily.

Despite these measures, the hospital refused to pay the patient compensation for the harm caused. The girl went to court, demanding compensation of five million rubles. The insurance company "Zabaikalmedstrakh" indicated among the identified errors "incomplete examination and treatment, aggressive surgical intervention," as well as "the implementation of unindicated, unjustified measures from a clinical point of view, which led to a deterioration in the health of the insured person."

Earlier, in December 2016, in the Amur region, surgeons removed part of the genitals of a patient at the Blagoveshchensk City Clinical Hospital without appropriate medical indications. The man went to the hospital with inflammation of the testicle, but there was no reason to remove the second one, law enforcement agencies reported.
