The sad news came by email from Moscow. On January 5, 2017, Spartak Timofeevich Belyaev passed away. More recently, after his 93rd birthday, he wrote that he was cheerful and efficient. Just recently, his employees were amazed at how he climbed to the fourth floor without an elevator or cheerfully ran across the street to the bus, holding a wand under his arm.
