Obama held the last press conference as president of the United States

The last press conference of Barack Obama as president of the United States was held in the White House. The event lasted about an hour.

At the beginning of the press conference, Obama said that he contacted the family of former President George Bush Sr. after reports on the hospitalization of himself and his wife.

The President also expressed gratitude to the journalists who worked in the White House. “Your presence helped this place to work better,” he said.

Commenting on his decision to soften the term by WikiLeaks, Chelsea Manning , Obama said that she, in his opinion, had served a “serious prison term” and, in her case, “justice has happened”.

Answering the question about the possible lifting of sanctions with the Russian Federation Donald Trump in case of a reduction in the nuclear arsenal , Obama recalled that the sanctions were introduced regardless of nuclear weapons, and due to Russian actions against Ukraine.

The President said that in the next year he plans to spend more time with his family, however, as a citizen, he intends to publicly speak out on important issues, for example, discrimination, the expulsion of migrants and attacks on the press.
