Senegalese troops entered Gambia

The army of Senegal entered the territory of the Gambia, reports Reuters with reference to the colonel of the Senegalese army Abdou Ndiaye.

According to the agency, the armed forces must ensure the transfer of power to Adama Barrow, who won the presidential election.

“We have entered the Gambia,” Abdu Ndiaye wrote to the agency.

The presidential elections in The Gambia were held in December 2016. Earlier on January 19, President-elect Adama Barrow took the oath at his country's embassy in Senegal.

The current president, Yahya Jammeh, who has been in charge of the country since 1994, refuses to leave his post. He does not recognize the election results, citing violations.
