In Washington, participants in a protest to mark the inauguration of new US President Donald Trump smashed windows in the buildings of McDonald's and Bank of America. The police responded with tear gas, Reuters reported.

According to the agency, the participants in the pogroms belonged to a group of protesters dressed in black. They carried anarchist flags and a banner reading Make Racists Afraid Again (“Let’s make the racists fear again,” a reference to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan).

After the inauguration, local police reported "a large number of arrests" and two officers were slightly injured.

The protests are taking place three blocks east of the White House. The inauguration takes place at the Capitol.
