The last Russian prisoner was released from prison at the American military base in Guantanamo in Cuba. Ravil Mingazov, along with two other prisoners, was sent to the United Arab Emirates. This was reported on Thursday by the US Department of Defense.

The 48-year-old Mingazov, a former dancer of the military ensemble, was accused by the US authorities of training in the camps of the Islamic movement of Uzbekistan, and in 2001 went to Afghanistan, where he joined the Taliban. He was detained in 2002 in Pakistan. In Guantanamo, Mingazov spent more than 14 years.

The Russian authorities turned to the United States several times with a request to deport Mingazov to their homeland. However, he himself refused to return to Russia, fearing criminal prosecution.
