The administration of St. Petersburg filed a lawsuit to evict a European university

The Committee for Property Relations of St. Petersburg filed a lawsuit in the Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region on the eviction of the European University from the occupied building - the Kushelev -Bisborodko Palace on Gagarinskaya Street. This is reported by Interfax.

According to officials, EU violated the terms of the lease agreement of the building "regarding the requirements of the Committee on State Control, the Use and Protection of History and Culture Monuments."

The committee assured that if the lawsuit is satisfied, the university would not be evicted before the end of the school year, so as not to violate the interests of students.

The commentary on the EU website says that the notification of termination of the contract was handed to representatives of the university on December 27. The cause of the decision made was called the results of an unscheduled summer check of the building.

The Committee of Property Relations, said in EU, accused the university of inconsistent redevelopments in the palace, namely, the installation of plastic windows on the courtyard facades and the construction of several temporary partitions. “It is important to note,” the commentary says, “that all these violations are not at risk for the cultural values ​​of the palace and in the process of adaptation of the building would be automatically corrected.”

On January 9, EU submitted to the same arbitration court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region a claim to the committee, in which he challenged the termination of the lease. On the 19th, the court took interim measures to take a lawsuit, prohibiting the Rosreestr to register the termination of the rental of the building. Hearing on the merits of the case is scheduled for March 15.

The authorities repeatedly, under various pretexts, created obstacles to the work of EU. So, in April last year, Rosobrnadzor completely suspended the state accreditation of higher education programs at the university. A month and a half ago, December 7, the same department suspended the university license . EU, however, challenged the decision in arbitration , and the court ordered Rosobrnadzor as a security measure during the consideration of the claim to return the right to work to the university. On December 14 , the license was restored . Preliminary hearings on the claim were held on January 11-12, the next meeting was scheduled for February 8.

One of the members of the Board of Trustees of EU is the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Alexei Kudrin.
