The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Film Foundation consider it necessary to protect domestic film production from foreign films, increasing the cost of a rental certificate for them from 3,500 to 5 million rubles.

On Monday, January 23, at a press conference in TASS , dedicated to the results of the year of Russian cinema, Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky, noting that over the past decades, “we have lost the film industry, completely and entirely, our cinema market was a significant market colonial,” said that the situation can change the “conscious policy of state proprietism”.

In particular, he said, it is necessary to “extend the time for domestic film awards”, create conditions for showing Russian events-events, freeing rental from an excessive number of Hollywood films, such as “Three X: World domination”, on the premiere of which almost half of the sessions in the cinemas of Russia.

According to the managing director of the Film Foundation Anton Malyshev, now the threshold of the entry of Hollywood cinema into the Russian market is very low: the cost of a rental certificate, i.e. The state fees that is paid upon receipt is only 3,500 rubles.

Therefore, government officials consider an increase in this amount to 5 million rubles. “This will clear the rental of a noticeable number of foreign films. In return, we will have more sessions for our cinema, ”says Malyshev.

According to Vedomosti with reference to a source in the Ministry of Culture, the head of the ministry supports this initiative and is going to officially submit it to the Government Council for Cinematography.
