Defenders of engineer from Tver Andrei Bubeev appealed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) with a complaint against the decision of the Russian courts. This is reported by the publication "Kommersant" with reference to representatives of the defense of the International Human Rights Group "Agora".
In 2016, the Zavolzhsky District Court of Tver sentenced Bubeev to two years and three months in prison. The defense believes that Andrei Bubeev's right to freedom of expression has been violated.
Mechanical engineer Bubeev was accused of public calls to carry out extremist activities (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code) and public calls to carry out activities aimed at violating the territorial integrity of Russia (Part 2 of Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code). The reason for the criminal prosecution was one repost of the material “Crimea is Ukraine” by publicist Boris Stomakhin and one picture on the same topic on Bubeev’s VKontakte page.
On December 29, 2016, Andrey Bubeev was sent to a colony in the Tver region, to IK-4 in the city of Torzhok. This was announced by his wife Anastasia Bubeeva.
