La La Land, the first big film of until recently, the chamber director Damien Shazella, has been the first lines of the Moscow box office for the second week and causes a shaft of adult posts in social networks. The frightening popularity of this musical among the enlightened public of Russia and America (there he received as much as 7 “golden globes” and claims to be “Oscar” in 14 nominations) forced Vasily Koretsky to cry out why everything in this movie is not at all what he wanted to seem.
1. This is not neoclassicThey write that La La Land is reviving the long-dead musical genre-first of all, with its perfect genre form in the best classical traditions ... (here it is necessary to list all sources of inspiration of director Shazella, from "singing in the rain" to the "Sherbourg umbrellas"). But the musical is quite alive and cheerful (unlike La La Lada): recall the last film of the Cohen brothers, Chirac, Spike Lee (2015), “Office” Johnny TO (2015), “Tokyo Trees” by Zion Sono (2014) or “The farther into the forest” of Rob Marshall. What Shazell addresses is not a tradition of the Golden Age of Hollywood, but a vague and distorted memory of her, a Russian TV, “Old Songs of the Main”.
