Mexico President Enrique Peni Nieto announced the decision to cancel the meeting with US President Donald Trump, which was supposed to be held on January 31. It is reported by CNN.
Nieto made such a decision after Trump’s statement that Mexico would have to pay the costs of building the wall, which the American president intends to build on the US border and Mexico.
Trump also stated that if Mexico is not going to pay for the construction of the wall on the border, it would be better to cancel the upcoming visit by President Mexico in the United States. “If Mexico does not want to pay for a wall that is extremely necessary, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
On the eve of Trump, he allocated six months to prepare for the construction of the wall on the US border with Mexico as part of the order to "improve border safety and immigration control." Such a measure, according to Trump, will contribute to "achieving complete operational control on the southern border."
"The purpose of this order is the management of the executive authorities in order to use all legal funds to protect the southern border of the country in order to prevent further illegal immigration to the United States and to quickly, consistently and humanely repatriate illegal immigrants," the text of the document posted on the White House website says.
It is noted at the disposal that "foreigners who illegally entered the United States without verification or tolerance pose a significant threat to national and public security."
On Wednesday, the speaker of the House of Representatives of the American Congress Paul Ryan said that Congress will block the allocation of funds for the construction of a wall on the US border with Mexico. According to him, the declared price of the project - from 8 billion to $ 14 billion - "approximately true."
At the same time, Ryan noted that the Republicans in Congress agree with the idea of Trump to strengthen the protection of borders.
