In Moscow, the first head of the self -proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic, Valery Bolotov, died. This was reported by RBC with reference to the former "Prime Minister" of the Donetsk People’s Republic Alexander Boroday.

Later, the ex-head of the LPR was confirmed by the head of the Southeast Front information center Konstantin Knyrik. "Valery Bolotov died, previously, from a heart attack in his apartment in Moscow two hours ago. He suddenly became ill," Knyrik said.

“Bolotov was the first head of the Lugansk People's Republic and was a member of the Union of Volunteers of Donbass. As the head of the Union, I express deep condolences to his relatives and friends,” Borodai said. “I can’t say that he knew him closely during the periods of 2014, but nevertheless he was a person who made a significant contribution to the first stage of the formation of the LPR.”

Beard said that on behalf of the Union of Volunteers of Donbass, he would invite the LPR authorities to perpetuate Bolotov’s memory, erecting him a monument.

On April 21, 2014, Bolotov was proclaimed the "People's Governor" of the Lugansk region,and on May 19 - the head of the LPR . It was included in the sanctions lists of the European Union, Canada and the USA.

On May 13, Bolotov was wounded in Lugansk as a result of an attempt. It was reported that he lost a lot of blood. The leader of the terrorists was hospitalized, and later he was treated for some time in Russia. Whoever attempted him was not specified.

On August 14, 2014, Bolotov resigned . He called her temporary interfax. "The consequences of injuries do not allow me to work with the full dedication of the strength for this post for the benefit of Luhansk residents in difficult wartime," Bolotov explained.

However, Bolotov did not return to his position. He left for Russia and was engaged in organizing the supply of "humanitarian aid" of the LPR.
